Marking the transition from Follow the Water to Seek Signs of Life, the Curiosity rover will investigate the composition of the Martian surface and scour the Red planet for evidence of organics like carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur.

The robotic arm Maxar developed for Curiosity helps scientists on Earth get a closer look at the Martian surface by holding and using tools to grind away layers, take microscopic images, extract samples and analyze the elemental composition of the rocks and soil.
